Summer 2025 Facility Improvements

November 1, 2025, Update

Dear Parishioners,

Here is an update on renovation progress and upcoming work:

  • During the weeks of November 10 and 17, we will be re-paving the back parking lot (Elkins Avenue entrance). This includes removing the existing paving, regrading the base, and then applying 2 coats of new asphalt, new parking lot lines, handicapped parking lines, and signs. The majority of the work will occur between Wednesday, November 12, and Wednesday, November 19, weather permitting.  If the entrances to that parking lot are blocked by orange cones, please do not enter the parking lot and use the main lot with the entrance on Route 611.
  • The church's lighting systems are complete. I hope you can now appreciate the brighter environment, the fresh paint, and the colors of the beautiful iconography and brickwork.
  • The exterior stairs to the kitchen are progressing nicely. Interior drywall and the first coat of exterior stucco have been applied. Lighting and fire alarm equipment installation are next, and the stairs should be available for use in the next 1-2 weeks.
  • The main interior work remaining is completing the Philoptochos room, including rebuilding one exterior wall and installing a new window and new lighting fixtures. Once the new window is delivered, this work will occur over the next few weeks.
  • All items temporarily stored in outside containers have been moved back into the building. We ask for everyone’s cooperation and patience while we sort out where items get stored. We will need to live with the new storage spaces for a while and figure out how best to store everything.

Thank you again for your support and patience. Please feel free to call or email me with any questions.

September 4, 2025, Update

Dear Parishioners,

Our Phase 1 Renovation is progressing smoothly and nearing completion! Bathroom tiles have been installed, painting and ceiling work are underway, and soon the crews will lay down flooring and install bathroom fixtures.

Exterior work includes preparing concrete for the new staircase to the kitchen and the new main-floor entrance, with sidewalk installation to follow. Over the next few weeks, work will continue inside the church, including replacing lighting, repairing plaster, and painting.

We plan to move into the renovated spaces during the week of September 21 and will ask for volunteers to help clean the church and the renovated areas and assist with moving items back inside.

We will hold a grand opening and blessing of the renovated spaces on Sunday, September 28, after Divine Liturgy, in conjunction with the start of Sunday School and our PTO’s Welcome Back luncheon. Please join us on September 28 to explore the new spaces and celebrate this key investment in our community!

June 10, 2025, Update

Dear Parishioners,

We are excited to announce that we are embarking on a significant upgrade of our classrooms and main‑level bathrooms this summer! On Sunday, June 8, the Special General Assembly approved the project. Over the next several weeks, we would like to inform you about the upcoming events and their impact on community life.

AFFECTED AREAS

These areas will be closed all summer, starting Monday, June 16: the side entrance; the main‑floor bathrooms and utility closet; the entire classroom level, including the conference room and back mezzanine; the kitchen pantry and staircase to the parking lot; and the back landing across from the Hall entrance.

These areas will be closed for limited times during the summer: the offices and hallway (weekdays only), the kitchen (weekdays only), and the Church and Narthex (weekdays only).

The back alley will be closed to all car and pedestrian traffic, as construction work will be occurring there, along with trash dumpsters for the construction debris.

The construction work should not impact church services and Hall events currently scheduled.

CLEAN UP AND MOVE OUT

Ministries and staff have already begun cleaning out the classrooms, the conference room, offices, and various storage areas so that demolition can start on Monday, June 16. If anyone is interested in any books from our library or trophies from the trophy case, please come to the Church Tuesday through Thursday this week to select what you would like. Due to space constraints, we will be selective about which items are most significant and will be kept for the future. All move‑out activities must be completed on Friday, June 12.

HOW WILL THIS AFFECT COMMUNITY LIFE?

  • You will not be able to drive from one parking lot to another.
  • You can only enter the facility through the courtyard door, the Hall entrance, or the Narthex.
  • The only available bathrooms will be those downstairs in the Hall.
  • The corridor and hallway connecting the church to the offices, as well as the stairs to the church hall, will be closed. On Sundays, please exit the church through the Narthex and proceed to the Hall or the downstairs bathrooms via the main Hall entrance.
  • There will be a few weeks when the kitchen is closed during the week for plumbing work.
  • Additionally, there will be some weeks when the sidewalk from the back parking lot to the patio will be removed and replaced.

We will provide regular updates on both our website and via email. Thank you for your patience and support while we proceed with much‑needed updates to our facilities.

Prayerfully yours,

Father John L. Johns, Peter Gouris, Dean Dalson
