Your Marriage Packet

HOME: Spiritual Milestones

Marriage is, as are many things in life, a learned experience. Learning how to give, how to love, how to share, how to make mutual decisions with your spouse as in one thought, one in action and one in flesh. Holy Matrimony is not only a Sacrament at the time of the ceremony, but also throughout life.

It is imperative that you speak with the priest before making any other plans, such as banquet hall, photographer, etc. We ask that you do not put the church in the position of just another ‘vendor’ for your wedding. Rather, start your wedding planning by placing the commitment you will be making in the church, in the presence of our Lord and your family, as the starting point of your wedding preparation journey.

As part of your preparation for the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony, you will be required as a couple to meet with Fr. John Johns for a few pre-marital preparation sessions, during which you will gain knowledge about the wedding preparation, wedding ceremony, and you new life as a couple.  Please call Father John at the Church Office, (215) 635-0316, as far in advance as possible to set up a time to meet with him.

In the meantime, in order for this sacrament to be celebrated with the proper dignity and solemnity, we offer the above instructional Guidelines for Marriage Preparation in the Orthodox Church to help you prepare for this special occasion. Please read these guidelines carefully and bring any questions you may have to the meeting with Fr. John.
