HERE'S HOW IT WORKS

If you recently signed up for an available reader spot in our Annunciation Psalter Group, you chose a numbered Kathisma (One Set of Psalms) 'from which you will begin' reading on the first day of the Lenten Fast - March 18th. For every day of Lent, read in order the next Set of Psalms (Kathisma). Here's how to Pray the Psalter:

First, begin with the opening Prayer of the Holy Spirit:

In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Glory to You, O Lord, glory to You!

O Heavenly King, O Comforter, the Spirit of Truth, Who are in all places and fill all things, the Treasury of good things and the Giver of life:
Come and abide in us, cleanse us from every stain, and save our souls, O Good One. Amen.

Trisagion Prayer:

Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. (3x)
Glory to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

O Most Holy Trinity, have mercy on us. O Lord, cleanse us from our sins. O Master, pardon our
transgressions. O Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities, for Your Name's sake. Lord, have mercy. (3x)

Glory to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Our Father, Who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy Name. Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses,
as we
forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory, of the Father, and of the Son, and of the
Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Then, Find and Read the next Set of Psalms (Kathisma) below.

Examples of How it Works

If you are Reader 1 in the group, on Day 1 you will begin by reading Kathisma 1 (Psalms 1-8). On Day 2 you will read Kathisma 2, Day 3 - Kathisma 3, and so on and so forth, until you have read all 20 Kathisma (Psalms 1-150) in 20 Days. Once you have read through all 20 Kathismata, the next day, day 21 of Lent, you will begin again and repeat by reading Kathisma 1 and so on.

If you are Reader 2 in the group, on Day 1 you will begin by reading Kathisma 2 (Psalms 9-16). On Day 2 you will read Kathisma 3, Day 3 - Kathisma 4, and so on and so forth, finishing with Kathisma 1. Once you have read through all 20 Kathismata, the next day, day 21 of Lent, you will begin again and repeat by reading Kathisma 2 and so on.

If you are Reader 18 in the group, on Day 1 you will begin by reading Kathisma 18 (Psalms 119-133). On Day 2 you will read Kathisma 19, Day 3 - Kathisma 20. On Day 4 you will read Kathisma 1 and so on and so forth, finishing with Kathisma 17. Once you have read through all 20 Kathismata, the next day, day 21 of Lent, you will begin again and repeat by reading Kathisma 18 and so on.

NOTES:

*The Psalter is a book of 150 Psalms divided into 20 Kathismata (Settings) and read every day during Great Lent.

**With twenty people each reading one Kathisma per day during the 40 Day Lenten period, together the Psalter is being prayed in its entirety, twice.

***Each Kathisma takes approximately twenty minutes to read. Each of us, individually, will pray the day’s Kathisma anytime and anywhere we are able.

**** Each Psalter Group has 20 available reader spots, each assigned to a numbered Kathisma (Set of Psalms) from which to begin reading on March 7th. Once a Group is filled, another Group will be added, containing another 20 available readers spots.
